Have you ever lost your contacts? Its the most irritating way to start your day! Thank goodness for having a Google account and backing up your calender and contacts. Most of us know how to do it but there are always new smartphone users coming to android. Here is a step by step guide on how to back up your contacts on gmai or the SD card. (android 2.1 and above)
1.When setting up your new android phone, the best way to ensure your contacts get backed up is to create a gmail account, make sure to go thru the step by step walk through on your phone to set it up. (make sure to create an email and password you will remember and write it down)
2. Once you have setup your gmail, you should receive a few welcome gmail emails to your phone. Now you can either transfer your contacts from your old phone either thru Bluetooth, a Cellbrite machine (if you are at a cell phone store getting a new phone) or add them one by one.
3. Once your contacts are entered, you should see at the top of your phone a circle with arrows spinning, that means your calender, contacts and email are being synced with gmail, this is a very good thing.
4. After about 30 mins you should be able to log into gmail.com and under contacts view your entire contact list from your phone, this will mean your contacts are successfully backed up to gmail.
5. If you ever want to make an additional copy of your contacts, you can do so by going into your contacts or people icon and hit menu, then click on import/export, it will give you a choice to either import/export to your SD card. When you export it will create a vcf file on your SD card that you can import at any time if you lose your contacts.
Hopefully this helps anyone trying to prevent losing there contacts, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
